Automating document indexing into Azure Cosmos DB with Logic Apps

Introduction
Effectively managing large document volumes is essential for modern applications, particularly to maintain fast and reliable querying. With Azure Logic Apps, you can now automate document indexing into Azure Cosmos DB, in addition to the existing capability of indexing in AI Search, offering the flexibility to use either service as a vector store.
Logic Apps offers a rich set of connectors that allow seamless integration with various document sources such as Azure Blob Storage, SharePoint, and OneDrive, enabling automated workflows for document ingestion from multiple locations. Whether you're working with PDFs, Word documents, or structured data files like CSVs, Logic Apps supports parsing different document types efficiently.
For larger documents, Logic Apps can also implement chunking, breaking down files into manageable parts to optimize processing and indexing. This ensures even complex or large datasets are handled smoothly without overwhelming system resources.
In terms of integration with Azure Cosmos DB, the Logic Apps Cosmos DB connector supports multiple authentication methods, including Managed Identity, Shared Key Authentication, and Azure Active Directory OAuth, providing flexibility depending on your security requirements. Additionally, Logic Apps can meet various networking needs, such as integrating with private endpoints or using VNet integration to secure communication between services.
In this post, we’ll walk through a scenario where Logic Apps automates the ingestion and indexing of documents, such as PDFs, into Azure Cosmos DB. This approach not only reduces operational overhead but also ensures that your data remains highly accessible and queryable.

Why use Logic Apps for document indexing in Cosmos DB?

Automated Workflows: By automating document indexing, you eliminate manual tasks and ensure that documents are indexed as soon as they are uploaded.
Scalability: As your document volume grows, Azure Cosmos DB’s global distribut<br />Update Type: Announcement, Services: Logic Apps, Cosmos DB, Microsoft Entra ID, Virtual Network, Azure Storage, Categories: Security, Services

Ping a specific public bundle in Logic App Standard

Background
Sometimes, we need to use same Logic App Standard bundle across different environments to make sure the workflows have same behaviors.
For example, we have DEV, UAT and PROD environment and would like to keep the PROD environment always to use the same bundle during the development. With default configurations (AzureFunctionsJobHost__extensionBundle__version = [1.*, 2.0.0) ), the backend will always upgrade to last bundle version which might cause unexpected behaviors across environments.
In order to avoid this kind of issues, we can ping a specific public bundle for all the environments to maintain same behavior.

Consideration
Normally, we only need to modify AzureFunctionsJobHost__extensionBundle__version in environment variables to fallback to previous bundle version. But it is not a long-term resolution since old bundles might be removed from backend instances.
So the following instruction introduce how to configure a public bundle as a special version for long-term usage.

Configuration Steps
1. All the installed bundles can be found in Kudu: C:\Program Files (x86)\FuncExtensionBundles\Microsoft.Azure.Functions.ExtensionBundle.Workflows, we can check in workflow overview page for current using bundle version in lower environment (eg: dev, UAT) and download the specific bundle.

2. Once we have the bundle files, it will be better to use a special version number, for example 1.99.99, so we need to modify the version number in bundle.json (root folder of downloaded files).
The sample content is following：
        {"id":"Microsoft.Azure.Functions.ExtensionBundle.Workflows","version":"1.99.99"}
After the modification, compress all files as zip and be aware of that we don't need root folder in zip.

3. To ping the bundle, we need to upload modified zip file into Logic App Standard file share (\home), if you don't use private bundle before, you need to create path in Kudu like following: \home\data\Functions\E<br />Update Type: Announcement, Services: Logic Apps, Azure Functions, Categories: Features

Announcement: Introducing the Logic Apps Hybrid Deployment Model (Public Preview)

Introducing the Logic Apps Hybrid Deployment Model
We are excited to announce the launch of the Logic Apps Hybrid Deployment Model, a new feature that empowers our customers with additional flexibility and control. This new offering allows you to build and deploy workflows that run on customer-managed infrastructure, providing you with the option to run Logic Apps on-premises, in a private cloud, or even in a third-party public cloud.

With the Logic Apps Hybrid Deployment Model, you can tailor your integration solutions to meet your specific needs, whether it's for regulatory compliance, data privacy, or network restrictions. This model ensures that you have the freedom to choose the best environment for your workflows, while still leveraging the powerful capabilities of Azure Logic Apps.

The Hybrid Deployment Model supports a semi-connected architecture. What this means is that you get local processing of workflows, the data processed by the workflows remains in your local SQL Server and also provides you the ability to connect to local networks. Since the Hybrid Deployment Model is based upon Logic Apps Standard, the built-in connectors will execute in your local compute giving you access to local data sources and higher throughput.

In some scenarios, you will need connectivity to external resources such as SaaS based systems like Office 365, Microsoft Teams and Dataverse. For these use cases, you can leverage our large library of Azure connectors to fulfil this need. You will also require internet connectivity to manage your Logic App from the Azure Portal. But, the semi-connected nature of our platform allows you to absorb temporary internet connectivity issues.

Hybrid Deployment Model Use Cases
During our early access preview, we had the opportunity to work with many customers to better understand their needs. The usage patterns that we encountered typically fall into the following segments:

Automate RAG Indexing: Azure Logic Apps & AI Search for Source Document Processing

Credits: Technical content by Azure AI Search Senior PM Gia Mondragon

Introduction
When working with RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) applications, the retriever, such as Azure AI Search, plays a crucial role in obtaining the most relevant results for the language model to deliver a response to end users. It is essential to store data representations that are semantically similar to specific user searches, such as vectors, which are a key component in vector and hybrid search. The task of parsing, chunking, vectorizing data and storing it in an index is handled by an Azure AI Search feature known as integrated vectorization. For supported data sources, this functionality also enables automated data ingestion, enrichment and processing.
However, there are numerous data sources not directly integrated with AI Search but accessible through a variety of connectors available in Azure Logic Apps. Azure Logic Apps has introduced new functionality that facilitates every step required to process documents from their connectors for unstructured data. Now data extraction, pulling files, parsing data, chunking, vectorizing and indexing your data into Azure AI Search is all streamlined into one integrated flow. Additionally, Azure Logic Apps now offers templates for high-demand connectors, with predefined indexing workflows for RAG-ready AI Search indexes, simplifying the creation of these workflows. Some of these templates include indexing pipelines for files located in SharePoint Online, Azure Files, SFTP, among others.

How to get started
Prerequisites:

A data source with unstructured data supported by Azure Logic Apps connectors
Azure Logic App (Workflow Service Plan)
Azure AI Search service
Azure OpenAI service with a deployed text embedding model
Azure Logic App built-in template. This is so you don’t have to create your own workflow. Note that you can create your own as well. However, this is not covered as part of this blog post.
Document Ingestion for Gen AI Applications using Logic Apps from 1000+ data sources!

Data is central to building any AI application, and efficient data ingestion is critical for success. With over 1,400 enterprise connectors, Logic Apps provides unparalleled access to a wide range of systems, applications, and databases, making it easier than ever to create powerful generative AI applications. By leveraging connectors like Azure OpenAI and Azure AI Search, businesses can seamlessly implement the Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pattern, allowing the ingestion and retrieval of data from multiple sources with ease.

What’s New !!

We are excited to share the public preview of two new actions in Azure Logic Apps—Parse Document and Chunk text. With these additions, building ingestion workflows for AI applications to “Chat with your Data” is now possible in just six simple steps, entirely out of the box and without writing a single line of code!

These actions are built on the Apache Tika toolkit and parser libraries, allowing you to parse thousands of file types such as PDF, DOCX, PPT, HTML, and more, in multiple languages. You can seamlessly read and parse documents from virtually any source, all without needing any custom logic or configuration!

This no-code approach enables you to automate complex workflows—whether it’s document parsing, data chunking, or powering generative AI models—helping you unlock the full potential of your data with minimal effort.

In addition to these out-of-the-box actions, Azure Logic Apps also offers pre-built templates for data ingestion from many common data sources, including SharePoint, Azure File Storage, Blob Storage, SFTP, and more, helping you rapidly build and deploy your applications.

RAG based Ingestion with Azure Logic Apps

In RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation), the ingestion process involves several stages to ensure that documents are processed, retrieved, and used effectively by generative AI models. Here’s a breakdown of each stage and how you can use Logic Apps for them –

Post-retirement action for App Service Environment v1/v2, Logic Apps ISE, and APIM stv1

As previously communicated, the following Azure services reached end of life on August 31, 2024:

Azure App Service Environment v1 and v2
Logic Apps Integration Service Environment
Azure API Management stv1

Customers running retired environments should migrate immediately to avoid security risk and loss of data. As part of our ongoing communication and assistance to migrate customers safely to their new environments, this article provides more information on the customer experience for any workloads that remain in production beginning 1st September 2024.

Please see the call-to-action section for a list of migration resources and guidance.

What will happen to applications after August 31, 2024?
We expect applications to remain available in the days immediately following the retirement date. However, Azure will start decommissioning the associated hardware. Maintenance tasks for decommissioning will affect customers’ application's availability and performance. This process will not have any impact on applications already on the latest version or those that were approved for extension before the retirement date.

The post-retirement customer experience will depend on the service, as follows:

Azure App Service Environment (ASE) v1 and v2: Customers who remain on ASE v1/v2 environments after the retirement date will experience intermittent outages as our teams prepare the environment for newer versions of the software. Please acknowledge the outages and begin work to migrate immediately. If there is no response or action from customers, we will attempt to auto-migrate the legacy environments. Please consider this only as a last resort and this scenario may require additional configuration from customers to bring the applications back online. It is essential that customers evaluate their v1/v2 environments and use the provided resources to complete the migration.

Unlock inline PowerShell capabilities to streamline Logic Apps workflows

The new inline PowerShell action, now in preview, adds flexibility to Logic Apps by enabling users to embed PowerShell scripts directly into workflows. This feature unlocks new possibilities for complex integrations, and I'm excited to demonstrate its potential with a bank reconciliation workflow demo.

What is the Inline PowerShell Action?

Just like the inline C# action recently released, the inline PowerShell action enables you to embed custom PowerShell scripts directly into your Logic Apps Standard workflows, allowing you to write and execute scripts within the workflow designer and eliminating the need for additional services. The action supports dynamic content from previous steps and returns the results from your PowerShell code for use in subsequent actions.

Key Benefits:

Management and cost: By embedding PowerShell scripts directly into the workflow, you reduce the complexity and cost associated with managing separate services.
Dedicated scripting Space: The action generates a dedicated .ps1 file, providing a personalized scripting environment.
Seamless Deployment: Scripts are deployed alongside your workflow, ensuring smooth and efficient execution.
Support for public and private modules: The inline PowerShell action supports up to 10 public modules from the PowerShell Gallery, such as Az or SqlServer, by enabling managed dependencies. Additionally, you can create and use private modules within your Logic Apps for custom functionality, improving code reuse and workflow maintainability.

Demonstrating the Power of Inline PowerShell: A Bank Reconciliation Workflow

To illustrate the capabilities of this new feature, I've developed a bank reconciliation workflow. This demo showcases how to automate the bank reconciliation process by starting and deallocating virtual machines (VMs) using inline PowerShell scripts. The workflow is triggered on a recurring schedule, where it starts the VM, checks for the necessary files, and uploads them to storage.
Logic Apps Standard Monitoring Dashboards

Recently, we introduced Insights support for Azure Logic Apps Standard, offering curated visualizations as a foundation for monitoring Azure services. These visualizations enable you to monitor Logic Apps Standard applications and workflows effectively.

In integration scenarios, where multiple systems and services interconnect, monitoring is crucial. Azure Logic Apps often serves as the backbone of these integrations, orchestrating complex workflows.

Whether you’re a developer, IT operations team member, or product owner, ensuring that systems run smoothly is essential. This release helps you gain a clear view of data flows, quickly detect and resolve issues, and maintain seamless operations.

Scope
The monitoring dashboards are designed specifically for Logic Apps Standard. The scope of the dashboard is the workflows inside the Logic App. The compute-based dashboard leverages the underlying App Service plan for that Logic App.

Data source
Most charts are based on Azure Metrics, requiring no user configuration. However, run details are not available in metrics, so we use Application Insights as the data source for these.

Visualization framework
The dashboard is built using Azure Workbooks, offering a variety of visualizations. Workbooks are easily extendable, allowing for customization to meet specific needs.

Pre-requisites to use the feature
To effectively use the dashboards, your Logic Apps must be linked to Application Insights to enable telemetry collection. Additionally, it's crucial to ensure that your application uses the updated V2 schema for telemetry. Here are the steps to update the host.json file to implement the new schema.

Capabilities
The dashboard is organized into four distinct tabs. The workflow starts with an aggregated view of all runs, followed by a summary at the workflow level, and then drills down into the details of specific workflow runs. The final tab is dedicated to performance analysis, focusing on compute utilization.

Implement Rule-Based scaling in Logic App Standard via Logic App Consumption

Background
As we all know, in Logic App Standard with WS ASP, we follow the target-based scaling as Azure Function EP plan which mostly depends on job queue length not CPU/memory usage.
But in some situations, we could experience high CPU/memory usage without a long job queue which results to the scale controller cannot vote to increase backend instances as expected.

So this blog is introduce how to "simulate" rule based scaling feature for Logic App Standard with WS plan as Logic App Standard running in ASE via using Logic App Consumption (it can be out Azure products as well, eg: Azure Function).

Mechanism
Since we need to scale based on CPU/memory usage (can be different metrics as well) , so the first issue we need to resolved is to get metrics data as following:

For example, if we would like to get average CPU usage, we can go into CPU Percentage page and capture a HAR trace which can tell us that the API used in portal is like:
https://management.azure.com/subscriptions/[SubscriptionID]/resourceGroups/[ResourceGroup]/providers/Microsoft.Web/serverFarms/[ASP Name]/providers/microsoft.Insights/metrics?timespan=[StartTime]/[EndTime]&interval=PT1M&metricnames=CpuPercentage&aggregation=average&metricNamespace=microsoft.web%2Fserverfarms&autoadjusttimegrain=true&validatedimensions=false&api-version=2019-07-01

Once we have the CPU usage data, we can calculate to see whether the current value hit the threshold, if so, we can call management API to change always ready instance count (Web Apps - Update Configuration - REST API (Azure App Service) | Microsoft Learn).

Implementation Logic
1. Retrieve CPU usage via API for past 2 minutes and calculate average
2. Retrieve current Logic App backend instance count and set target instance count as current
3. Validate when average CPU usage hit scale in/out threshold (>50% or <10%)

If larger than scale out threshold, add 1 instance in target instance count if not hit maximum (20) ins<br />Update Type: Announcement, Services: Logic Apps, Azure Functions, App Service, Categories: Services, Management

Logic Apps Standard - Service Bus In-App connector improvements for Peek-lock operations

In collaboration with Divya Swarnkar and Aprana Seth.

Service Bus In-App connector is bringing new triggers and actions for peek-lock operations. Those changes will allow peek-lock operations in message and queues that don’t require session to be started and completed from any instance of the runtime available in the pool of resources, removing previous requirements for VNET integration and fixed size or role instances, which were needed because of the underlying client SDK used by the connector.

The new trigger and actions will be the default operations for peek-lock, but will not impact existing workflows. Read through the next sections to learn more about this update and its impact.

New triggers

Starting from bundle version 1.81.x, you will find new triggers for messages available in a queue and topic using the peek-lock method:

New Actions

Starting from bundle version 1.81.x, you will find new actions for managing messages in a queue or topic subscriptions using the peek-lock method are added for queue and topic.

What is the difference between this version and the previous version of the connector

The new connector actions require details of the repository holding the message (queue name / topic and subscription name) as well as lock token, where the previous item required the message id.

This allows the connector to reuse or initialize a client in any instance of the runtime available in the pool of resources. With that, not only the pre-requisites of VNET integration and fixed number of role instance is remov but also the requirement of the same Message Receiver that peeked the message being the workflow that execute all the actions is removed. For more information about the previous connector requirements, check this Tech community post.

What is the impact of existing workflows that used the previous version of the Service Bus actions?

The previous actions and triggers are marked as internal actions now. This is how Logic Apps indicat<br />Update Type: Announcement, Services: Logic Apps, Service Bus, Virtual Network, Categories: Services

Automate responses to StackOverflow queries using OpenAI and Logic Apps

I'm excited to introduce a powerful solution for automating responses to unanswered Stack Overflow questions using the new AI Search and OpenAI connectors in Logic Apps (Standard). This setup ensures timely and relevant answers to "Logic App" tagged questions, which you can trigger daily, weekly, or monthly based on your preference. Follow this guide to set up your own automated response system for any hashtag, streamlining community support. You can also adapt this solution for tickets in Outlook, ServiceNow, or other platforms using Logic Apps connectors to securely access and automate responses. Plus, we’ve provided a sample solution on GitHub for you to try out, please fill out the feedback form to help us understand what areas you would like us to invest in next.

The Challenge
Stack Overflow is a crucial resource for developers, but many questions remain unanswered, leaving users without solutions. Similarly, in any ticketing system, manually addressing each query is impractical due to increasing volumes. Our new out-of-the-box AI connectors offer a solution to this challenge.

The Solution
By integrating AI Search and OpenAI connectors, you can create an automated system that efficiently addresses unanswered questions on Stack Overflow. Here’s how you can set it up:

Step 1: Set Up a Knowledge Base

Gather Documents: For demonstration purposes, use publicly available Logic Apps documentation in PDF format. If your knowledge base is extensive, consider splitting the documents.
Ingest Documents Workflow:

Configure a blob trigger to check for new documents daily.
Upon receiving a new document, the Logic App calls the Tokenize Azure Function API to chunk and tokenize the PDF. We plan to release new operations for document parsing and chunking in the next few weeks, providing all necessary building blocks for Gen AI applications in Logic Apps.
Parse string tokens to JSON and send the token payload to OpenAI to generate vector embeddings.
Define index criteria an<br />Update Type: Announcement, Services: Logic Apps, Azure AI Services, Azure Functions, Categories: Services

I work as an Integration Developer at DevScope. My primary responsibility is to develop solutions based on client requirements. This involves analyzing client needs, designing and implementing integration solutions, ensuring that data flows between different systems. My role also emphasizes collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure that our solutions are aligned with overall business objectives.

Can you provide some insights into your day-to-day activities and what a typical day in your role looks like?
As a developer, my day-to-day activities vary depending on the clients I'm working with. Recently, I've been focused on a client based in Canada, which has shaped my daily routine. My morning is dedicated to development and working on active projects. This is when I'm most focused and productive. Whether it's creating logic apps or testing, the morning hours are crucial for making significant progress on the project. I often start by reviewing my tasks and setting goals for what I want to achieve by lunchtime.
The afternoon is reserved for meetings and collaboration. Working with a Canadian client means I need to sync my schedule to accommodate time zone differences. These meetings are essential for aligning and discussing project updates, and addressing any issues that arise. After meetings, I use the remaining time to make necessary changes based on the feedback received. This can involve tweaking, fixing bugs, or refining what is necessary. The late afternoon is a good time for this kind of work as it allows me to address immediate concerns and ensure that the project stays on track.

As per the previous blog (Integrate Azure Open AI in Teams Channel via Logic App - Microsoft Community Hub) which only supports for plain text conversation.
For now, Azure Open AI released GPT-4o model which integrates text and images in a single model, enabling it to handle multiple data types simultaneously.
This post is to introduce how to upgrade to GPT-4o with capability for image processing.

Prerequisite
Most of the prerequisites are the same, just instead of GPT-3.5, we need to have a GPT-4o deployment in Azure Open AI environment.
Since GPT-4o is not available for all the regions, so you need to refer to the document (Azure OpenAI Service models - Azure OpenAI | Microsoft Learn) to see whether your current region supports for GPT-4o or not. If not, then you will have to deploy a new Azure Open AI.

Mechanism
In Open AI API, we can see that when send image to API, we need to provide image as base64 encoded content.

[
  {
    "role": "user",
    "content": [
      {
        "type": "image_url",
        "image_url": {
          "url": "data&colon;image/png;base64,iVBORw0AAABJR.....U5ErkJggg=="
        }
      },
      {
        "type": "text",
        "text": "what is this logo"
      }
    ]
  }
]

So the only thing for us is to get image binary data from Teams channel which we can achieve that via using Teams Graph API: Get chatMessageHostedContent - Microsoft Graph v1.0 | Microsoft Learn

Template and parameters
You can find the template in Drac-Zhang/LogicApp_Teams_OpenAI_Integration_WithGPT4o (github.com)

Announcement: Introducing .NET 8 Custom Code support for Azure Logic Apps (Standard) - Preview

Introduction

The support for .NET Framework custom code in Logic App Standard has been helping customer to call compiled custom code from the built-in action, offering the flexibility and control needed to solve tough integration problems.
We are excited to announce that this feature has been extended to support .NET 8 based workloads as well. This means that you can now use the latest version of .NET to write your custom code logic and invoke it from a logic app action.
This document will show you how to use custom code support for Azure Logic Apps Standard with .NET 8.

Prerequisites

An Azure subscription. If you don't have one, you can create a free account here.
Azure Logic Apps (Standard) extension for Visual Studio Code. You can install it from the Visual Studio Marketplace.

Using .NET 8 based custom code in logic app

Authoring, building, debugging and deploying experience are similar to the .NET framework based custom code project except that you choose the target framework as .NET 8 during the workspace creation.

More details on the .NET framework custom code support can be found in this blog- .NET Framework Custom Code for Azure Logic Apps (microsoft.com)

Create a Logic app workspace:

A logic app workspace template creates a workspace file and two sample projects. One of the projects will allow you to author custom code and the other project will be for authoring workflows.

You can create a new logic app workspace using the following steps:

Click on the Azure A in the left navigation followed by clicking on the Logic Apps icon and choose to Create a new logic app workspace

Select a folder for your project and choose a Workspace name.
Choose “Logic app with custom code project” as a project template.

Choose the target Framework as “.NET 8”

You will now be prompted to provide some values including:

Function name for your code project
A Namespace for your custom code
Workflow template for your first workflow (Stateful or Stat<br />Update Type: Preview, Services: Logic Apps, Categories:

Logic Apps Standard - New Hybrid Deployment Model (Preview)

At the Integrate 2024 event, we announced a new Hybrid Deployment Model for Azure Logic Apps (Standard) that allows you to run Logic Apps workloads on customer managed infrastructure. This new capability is currently in an early access preview and interested parties should fill out the following nomination form: https://aka.ms/HybridLAOnboarding.

The new hybrid deployment model is ideal for customers who want more control over where and how their integration workloads are hosted. This includes on-premises, private clouds or public clouds. This offering focuses on semi-connected scenarios that offer local processing, local storage and local network access. Using this model allows customers to absorb intermittent internet connectivity issues.

Regardless of where your Logic Apps are deployed, you can still leverage the Azure Portal, via Azure ARC agent, to access the control plane. This provides a unified experience independent of where your workflows are deployed.

Announcing the Public Preview of the Azure Logic Apps Rules Engine!

Business rules engines offer a low-code environment that lets you build applications faster and easier, reducing dependencies on programming. Rules engine help to create and change business logic without having to write code or restart the applications that use them. Also, In a world of microservices that promotes decoupling, rules engines provide consistency, clarity, and compliance across different services and domains. Those are some of the benefits of using a Rules Engine.

BizTalk Server includes a Business Rules Engine. We have incorporated the RETE runtime included in the product along with support of .net and XML facts into Azure Logic Apps. This means that customers migrating from BizTalk Server can leverage their existing BRE implementations in Azure Logic Apps now. This includes our customers looking to migrate their BizTalk Server SWIFT solutions to Azure Logic Apps.

The Microsoft Rules Composer

To help you create rules for use with your Azure Logic Apps Rules Engine project, the Microsoft Rules Composer provides a visual tool for authoring and versioning rulesets and vocabularies. It is an stand along application that can be downloaded from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=106092.

Rules

Rules are declarative statements that include a condition and actions where the condition is evaluated. If the result is true, the rules engine performs one or more actions. The following diagram shows the relationship between Rulesets, Rules, Facts, Conditions and Actions:

What are Vocabularies?

Vocabularies are collections of definitions consisting of friendly names for the facts used in rule conditions and actions. They make the rules easier to read, understand, and share by people in a particular business domain. For instance: “Status”. Vocabularies can be of the following types:

Constant Value
Range of Values
Set of Values

Control functions and Forward Chaining

Control functions help applications to control the fact<br />Update Type: Preview, Services: Logic Apps, Categories: Compliance, Services

Announcement: Introducing .NET C# Inline Action for Azure Logic Apps (Standard) - Preview

We are excited to introduce a new capability that allows developers to write .NET C# script right within the Logic Apps designer in Azure Portal. This complements the custom code feature in VS Code that we introduced previously for invoking .NET FX and NET8 (planned) functions written and deployed to a Logic App.

Usage guidelines
As you try this feature please keep the following in mind:

Script execution and assemblies: Runs within the Azure Function host process; custom assemblies not supported (custom code capability available). Access to all framework assemblies, including Newtonsoft.Json. Custom assembly support coming before general availability.
Portal-only support for C# Script Files (.csx This feature is not yet available in VS Code and is aimed at helping users solve management tasks, automate workflows, and handle other C# scenarios directly in Azure Portal without having to configure a local development environment.

Adding C# script in your workflow

You will see a new action called “Execute CSharp Script Code” under “Inline Code” in the list of actions available for you.

Upon selecting this action, a code editor will pop-up allowing you to write your code. The code editor will start with “boilerplate” code to help guide you in writing your first CSharp script in Logic App.

The script code is saved as a .csx file in the same folder as your workflow.json file and deployed to your application along with the workflow definition. As part of Logic App initialization, this code file will be compiled and be ready for execution.

How does the scripting work?

The .csx format allows you to write less "boilerplate" and focus on writing just a C# function. Instead of wrapping everything in a namespace and class, just define a Run method. Include any assembly references and namespaces at the beginning of the file as usual. The name of this method is p<br />Update Type: Preview, Services: Logic Apps, Azure Functions, Categories: Management
